Eligibility Requirements for P-1A Visa
  • Individual athletes must demonstrate extraordinary performance and international recognition.
  • Teams must show collective international recognition.
  • Applicants must come to the U.S. to participate in an internationally recognized event, competition, or performance as an athlete or team.
  • A U.S. employer, agent, or sponsor must support the application.

Eligibility Requirements for P-1B Visa
  • Entertainment groups must have extraordinary achievements and international recognition.
  • At least 75% of the group’s members must have a sustained relationship with the group for at least one year.
  • A U.S. employer, agent, or sponsor must employ the group.

The P-1 Visa includes two categories: P-1A for athletes and P-1B for entertainment group members. Each has specific eligibility requirements.

What is the duration of P-1 Visa?
The duration of a P-1 Visa depends on the time needed for beneficiaries to complete their events in the United States. The initial stay for both P-1A and P-1B Visas cannot exceed one year.
P-1A Visa holders may receive a one-time extension of up to 5 years, while P-1B Visa holders can be granted extensions in one-year increments.
Family members on P-4 status are not authorized to work but may attend non-academic or vocational studies.
No. You must be a member of an entertainment group to be eligible for a P-1B Visa. Solo entertainers may be eligible for an O-1 Visa instead.
